Baldwin’s Indoor Track & Field Team Competed
in the first indoor meet of the 2005 season on Thursday,
January 6th at Fitzgerald Field House on the campus
of the University of Pittsburgh. Click

The Baldwin High School varsity basketball team
met Central Catholic High School on January 21 on
Baldwin’s court. The Purple Pit, pep band,
cheerleaders, and a sold-out crowd came to cheer
the Highlanders on to a victory over Central, 63
to 49. High scorers were Julian Pinkston with 17,
Ryan Einwag with 14, and Cart Kelly with 11 points.

team of Tim Phillips, Keith Huebner, Ron Walter,
Bill Nguyen, Carly Brickett, Allyson Sheehan, Joe
McMahon, and Devin Jackson finished in the top six
at the meet held at the University of Pittsburgh
on January 19

Update
December 15, 2004
Junior Varsity - The Highlanders lost a very close
match to Chartiers Valley 25-24. All of the Highlander
points came on
falls by Sean Tomko, Nick Bernarding, Dennis Angle,
and Adam Weimer.
Varsity - After
the first 7 matches, the Highlanders were behind
36-4. They made a strong comeback, but had to settle
for a 43-28 loss to even their record at 4 and
4. Baldwin falls were recorded by Nate Aaron, Brandon
Alston, and Nebojsa Nedic. Ricky Haarbauer won
by major decision 8-0. Regular decisions were won
by Carl Westgren 14-8, and Dan Joyce 12-7.
December 17, 2004
Junior Varsity - The Highlanders used 5 pins, a
technical fall, and a decision to squeeze by Mt.
Lebanon (Mellon Jr. High) 38-34. The falls were scored
by Dennis Angle, Adam Weimer, Sean Tomko, Nick Bernarding,
and Andy Cornell. Jason Lewis won 19-2 for a technical
fall and Peter Hoffmann won a 6-5 decision.
December 17 and 18, 2004
Varsity - Baldwin finished in 17th place out of
25 teams entered. Ricky Haarbauer won the championship
at 160 lbs. The only other place winners were Nate
Aaron (8th place at 103) and Nadeem Farah (8th place
at 189).
December 22, 2004
Varsity - The Highlanders won only two matches as they lost to Waynesburg 70-10.
Nate Aaron was awarded a forfeit and Ricky Haarbauer remained undefeated with
a 10-0 major decision.
December 30, 2004
Varsity - On day two of the Powerade Tournament,
Nate Aaron lost in the 4th round of consolations
coming up one win short of earning a medal. In the
semi-final of the championship round, Ricky Haarbauer
won a 7-3 decision. In the 160 lb. final, Ricky lost
6-0 to the tournament #1 seed.
January 5, 2005
Junior Varsity - The Highlanders, showing the effects
of the long holiday season, lost to a strong Keystone
Oaks team, 40-18. Baldwin's scoring came on falls
by Sean Tomko, Bryson Pritchard (returning to action
after an early season injury), and Adam Weimer.
Varsity - The second half of the K.O. "double
header" went much like the first half with Keystone
Oaks, winning 51-30. Each team gave up three forfeits.
For the Highlanders, Ricky Haarbauer won on a 1st
period fall and Nadeem Farah pinned his opponent
in the 3rd period. Nate Aaron, Brandon Adam, and
Connie Mezhinsky got the forfeits.

Update - Elizabeth Forward
Baldwin High School Men's and Women's Swim teams
had outstanding performances on January 4 against
Elizabeth Forward. Multiple event winners for the
Highlanders were Derek Sapp, Ray Toomey, Drew Sapp,
and Jordan Bishop for the men's team. For the women's
team, Jeannette Daly won the 200 and 400 freestyle
races in WPIAL qualifying time and anchoring the
200 and 400 freestyle relays. Multiple event winners
were Jeanette Trok, Missy Watson, Rachel Christman,
and Jen Halloran.

Varsity Roller Hockey
The Baldwin varsity roller hockey team defeated
Shaler 6 to 5 in overtime. Goals were scored by Nick
Hinsch with four goals, Matt Schneider and Nick Posa
with one goal each.

JV Ice Hockey Elizabeth Forward
The Baldwin junior varsity ice hockey team defeated
Elizabeth Forward 8 to 1. Leading scorers were Sam
Smith with three goals, Matt Schneider with two goals,
and Ben Galati, Jim Krupa, and Jeremy McHugh with
one goal each.

Swim
Update - Somerset
The Baldwin High School Men's and Women's swim
teams placed third at the Somerset High School meet
on December 11. Top performers included Erika LIttle
winning the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and
Jeannette Daly winning the 100 freestyle. For the
men, Derek Sapp won the 100 breaststroke and set
a new meet record. Raymond Toomey won the 200 freestyle,
100 backstroke, and the 1000 freestyle. Raymond also
broke five meet records and led off the winning 200
freestyle relay with a new school record in the 50
freestyle.

- Cheerleader Canam Competition
The Baldwin cheerleaders have been working hard
this fall to perfect their competition routines.
On December 11th, the cheerleaders competed at a
Canam competition at Thomas Jefferson High School.
The Baldwin Varsity, Baldwin Junior Varsity, and
Harrison squads all finished in second place.

Varsity Wrestling Defeats West Mifflin
The Highlanders opened the season on December 8
with a 45-30 win over West Mifflin. Winning by fall
for Baldwin were Nate Aaron, Carl Westgren, Dan Joyce,
Max Vietmeier, and Steve Fetter. Both Nick Noone
with a 7-5 decision and Nadeem Farah with a 3-1 decision
earned their first Varsity wins. Constantine Mezhinsky
also won by decision, 11-7, and Rick Haarbauer won
by forfeit.

High Wrestling Defeats West Mifflin
West Mifflin beat the Junior High Wrestling team
75-24 with the help of six forfeits. Dennis Angle
won with a first period fall and Matt Vogt won by
disqualification. Jordan Lowe and Jason Lewis won
by forfeit to complete the Highlander scoring. In
exhibition action, Jason Lewis and Andy Cornell won
with falls.

Hockey First Game
The Baldwin junior varsity hockey team won their
first game of their season against Peters Township.
Bryan Tomney had a hat trick and Nick Hinsch, Jim
Krupa, Jeremy McHugh, Ryan Nix, Chad Revak and Matt
Schneider had one goal each.
