Play
Helps to Preserve Civil War Battlefield
- Paynter
In
an effort to raise funds for Civil War battlefield
preservation, Mrs. Kirsten Bilbie's fourth grade
class at Paynter Elementary performed the play, "Harriet
Tubman-Second Moses" for students and parents.
$515 in donations were raised and will be given
to the Civil War Preservation Trust. The funds
raised may earn the class a ceremonial title
to a small plot of land from one of the battlefields.
Mrs. Bilbie said it's likely their money will
be used to preserve the Antietam battlefield
in Maryland.
For the past seven years, Mrs. Bilbie has taken Paynter students
to the Gettysburg battlefields. At the end of May, four busloads
of Paynter's third- through fifth-graders will make their yearly
trip to Gettysburg.

7th grade students visit Andy Warhol
Museum
A
group of 7th grade students from Harrison Middle
School had the opportunity to visit the Andy
Warhol Museum as part of their 9-week art experience.
The trip was organized by art teacher, Mrs..
Patricia Labanc, in an effort for the students
to enhance their knowledge of the POP ART movement
as well as those artists who created the new
style in the 1950's. Students were able to select
their favorite present day icon figure and create
a POP icon painting and icon clay tile of that
person following the techniques of Andy Warhol.
In
order to assist the students in navigating the
multi-floor museum, Mrs.. Labanc created a scavenger
hunt for the students to find certain pieces
of information from each floor to record in a
workbook. The children enjoyed the visit and
the opportunity to interact with such wonderful
exhibits from the world of art.
