The
Baldwin-Whitehall School District has joined a
statewide public outreach campaign designed to promote
the accomplishments, accountability and value of
Pennsylvania's public schools.
Bully
Awareness Program - PES
A
bully awareness program was presented to the
students at Paynter Elementary School. School
social worker, Mr. Mark Lepore and intern, Ms.
Jennifer Walsh provided an informational program
on ways students can handle situations with a
bully and how to prevent bullying. PA State Senator,
Jay Costa talked with students on the subject.
To help reinforce the information presented to
the students, Sponge Bob met with the students.

Challenge
by Choice
7C
Hurricane students participating in the Challenge
by Choice field trip practiced cooperation, leadership,
and problem solving skills. When asking permission
to try a solution, students are reminded, "As
long as it is safe, meets the guidelines, and
is agreed upon by the group."

Dr.
Milanovich Named New Assistant Superintendent
At
the September board meeting Dr. Donna
K. Milanovich was officially named
as the new Assistant Superintendent,
taking over the position most recently
held by Dorothy Walsh, a 44-year
veteran of the district.
Dr.
Milanovich had been a curriculum
specialist in the district since
this past July, having served as
principal of J.E. Harrison Middle
School for nine years. An educator
for 27 years, Dr. Milanovich has
also held the position of teacher,
guidance counselor and assistant
principal. She worked in the Moon
Area and Bethel Park school districts
prior to coming to Baldwin-Whitehall.

Visit Paynter
In
recognition of Fire Safety Week, Assistant Fire
Chief Paul Bronder and Firefighter Mark Garfold
of Baldwin #1 Fire Company visited the kindergarten
classes at Paynter Elementary School. The chief
reviewed fire safety rules with the students
and Firefighter Mark demonstrated some of the
equipment and protection that firemen use.

at Harrison Middle School
Team
8B Language Arts students of Mrs. Kimberly Dillon
recently read the novel, Dragonwings. In the
story, the hobby of the main character is kite
making. The students were asked to research the
making of a kite and construct their own. They
then had the opportunity to fly thier kites.

Queen
Kristine
Van Wert and Fred Mueller are the 2002
Baldwin High School homecoming Queen and
King. The crowning of King and Queen took
place during the Homecoming football game
half-time presentation. Mascot Jim Young
stood in for King Fred Mueller, a member
of the Baldwin football team.

Bully-Free
Program at McAnnulty
McAnnulty
PTA provided The Bully-Free Amazing Wonder Show
Program to students at McAnnulty Elementary School.
Presenter, Chris "Doc" Dixon presented
to the students, with the use of magic, examples
of bullying. "Doc" explained and demonstrated
that verbal taunts, physical violence and excluding
classmates is bullying and wrong. The students
also learned the Four Steps When You Meet A Bully.

Bus Visits Elementary Schools
The
Baldwin-Whitehall Safety bus stopped at Whitehall,
Paynter, and McAnnulty Elementary Schools during
National School Bus Safety Week, October 20-26.
The safety bus is part of the district's Bus
Ridership Program. With the program, elementary
students are reminded of bus safety, rules of
riding a school bus, and the correct way to get
onto and off of a school bus.

Borough Police Department K-9 "Rasken" &

Keith Hagan at McAnnulty
Red
Ribbon Week activities at McAnnulty Elementary
School included a visit from Baldwin Borough
Police Department Officer Keith Hagan and K-9 "Raskin".
Canine "Raskin" is a 3 year old German
Shepherd certified by the North American Police
Work Dog Association for Utility and Narcotics
Detection. During the visit, Officer Hagan talked
with the students about the dangers of drugs
and alchohol and Stranger Danger.
