from the 6th grade curriculum. Each student
was responsible for sculpting and painting
the models. Creativity and "Teamwork"

WWII
Experience - BHS
Mr.
Joseph Devlin, an uncle-in-law of Baldwin
High School social studies teacher Mr. Bill
Veith, visited with Mr. Veith’s students
to share his experiences as an United States
World War II Army Air Force navigator, pilot
and former POW. Mr. Devlin vividly recalled
his days as a young navigator and described
his primary, secondary and targets of opportunity.
He flew missions into Africa and into the
Balkans. On a mission to hit coordinates in
the oil fields of Ploesti, Devlin’s
plane was hit and developed engine trouble.
Mr. Devlin and the crew had to bail out at
22,000 feet.
He told the students
of his capture, imprisonment, and eventual escape
and rescue. He returned home to Pittsburgh and then
was transferred to Pilot’s School and learned
to fly. He then flew transport planes to the Pacific
bringing troops home. His tour of duty ended February
1946.

FBLA/Chamber
of Commerce Business Shadowing Day
Ten Baldwin High
School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
students, eight of them members of the Chamber
of Commerce, were invited to visit the Giant Eagle
at Brentwood Towne Square for an insight into
their business, and what it takes to run a business
of that size and complexity. The students were
given a 45 minute tour of the facility, which
included many insights into what it takes to get
each department properly functioning, positioned,
and appealing to customers. They were then treated
to a “working lunch” where they sat
and discussed business with Dan Cheberenchick,
an owner of the store. He gave insight into how
corporate and franchise stores operate, what it
takes to get a business started, competition,
departmentalization within the store and the profitability
of those departments, as well as many other business
topics.

second grade class of Mrs. Hareras read the story
Rechenka's Eggs by Patricia Polacco and discussed

along with the art of painting the eggs. The students

brought in their own hard boiled egg and copied
some of the designs used on the eggs in the story.
