Go-Carts
and Motion and Design Asset Science
- PES
At Paynter Elementary,
Mrs. Wright's student, Jim Stoicovy and his dad,
Alex Stoicovy really made Motion & Design Asset
Science come to life. While the students applied
Newton's Three Laws of Motion to Jim's ability
to drive a championship car, they also admired
the SWAT racing car's framework. In North Carolina,
Virginia, and other state speedways, these Go-Cart
advocates match up for sponsors such as Baltimore
House, Steamfitters, etc. Compared to NASCAR, fifth
graders enjoyed this just as much.

Literature
Slumber Party -PES
At Paynter Elementary,
Mrs. Noel and Mrs. Singleton's 2nd grade classes
participated in a literature slumber party. The
children came to school dressed in pajama's and
slippers. They spread out their blankets and pillows
as they listened to the story, The Art Lesson,
by Tomie dePaola. Just like Tomie as a child, they
too drew on their pillowcases illustrating special
events from second grade. During their slumber
party, they munched on popcorn, socialized with
friends, and created a masterpiece keepsake.

Harriet
Tubman Play - PES
At Paynter Elementary,
the fourth grade students in Ms. Bilbie and Mr.
Kobistek’s class know the importance of preserving
history. After studying about the Civil War and
making the annual trip to Gettysburg, they decided
to raise money to help in preserving endangered
Civil War battlefields. They choose to put on the
play Harriet Tubman: A Second Moses to earn some
money. The play highlighted Harriet Tubman’s
life and celebrated her accomplishments. Many of
the students were featured soloists, and all the
students sang hymns taught to them by Miss Packer.
They all did an outstanding job with both the play
and raising about $930. It was a great success
due to all the parent volunteers and donations.
The students in Ms. Bilbie’s class, however,
were not satisfied with the amount raised, so they
decided to hold a walk-a –thon to earn more
money. The students walked the track at the high
school getting sponsors to donate a specified amount
for every lap. They walked about $600 worth. The
students combined efforts raised enough money to
save an acre of an endangered Civil War battlefield.
