Paynter Elementary and Whitehall Elementary third,
fourth, and fifth grade students interested in band
or orchestra took part in instrument try-outs . Instrumental
music teachers, Mr. Michael Clancy, Mrs. Debbie Vavrek,
Mr. Allan Link, and Mr. Alan Booth gave the interested
students the opportunity to try to hold and play
the musical instruments that they are thinking about

Pep Rally
On the afternoon of September 10, there was little
doubt to anyone in ear-shot of Baldwin High School
that the Pride is Alive. Athletic Director, Mr. Lou
Angelo brought back the first pep assembly in thirteen
years to the high school stadium. Under a sunny and
blue sky, the entire student body was in attendance
to cheer for all the fall sports teams. Captains
from each of the teams were introduced and each team
and the band were recognized for their part in helping
to make Baldwin High School outstanding. Also at
the assembly, the girls volleyball team received
their WPIAL rings. Senior Class President T. Michael
Ryan, varsity football Coach Silianoff, and the football
team captains, band, school mascot and cheerleaders
encouraged the audience to "make some noise".

- Character Education Door Decoration
Whitehall Elementary’s first core
value for Character Education is PRIDE. Pride
is delight or satisfaction with one’s
achievements. Pride allows us to feel proud
and have self-esteem or self-respect. Everyone
should feel proud of themselves as they study
to gain more education and knowledge. We
are usually most proud when we do something
well, especially if that thing was hard for
us to do like winning a race in physical
education class or getting all the words
right on a spelling test. Sometimes an adult
will be around to notice what you did and
tell you “Good job!” but not
always. Even if no one else knows what you
did, be proud!
Recently, a “Decorate Your Classroom
Door with Pride” contest took place
at Whitehall. Walking down the hallways of
the school, pride is evident with the wonderfully
decorated doors. Congratulations to Mrs.
Finet’s third grade class with their
first place door, Mrs. Ridge’s fifth
grade class with their second place door,
and Mrs. Walsh’s fourth grade class
with being recognized with third place.

- Sensory Poems
At Whitehall Elementary, Mrs. Larson’s fourth
grade class created “sensory poems” based
on their experience of eating an apple. As students
ate an apple, they made a list of words or phrases
that described how the apple looked, smelled, tasted,
felt, and the sound that they heard. From the list,
they created a quatrain which is a poem of four lines
with a four - word sentence and three - word sentence
pattern. As a “grand finale”, they created
an apple from construction paper to use as a border
for display.
