ESL Program Goal and Objectives: |
| The goal of the English
as a Second Language (ESL) program at Baldwin Whitehall School
District is to provide students with limited English proficiency
instruction and academic support until they acquire the level
of English proficiency necessary to participate successfully
in grade-level classes. |
|
|
| To meet this goal,
the objectives of all instruction involve the development of
speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English.
The rate at which each individual student acquires these skills
differs and therefore instruction is differentiated to take that
into account. |
|
| The district also aims
to provide a source of support as the English Language Learner
adjusts and copes with his/her new cultural and academic setting.
Teachers
work to develop an appreciation of their students’ strengths within the
school setting and to ensure full access to the range of educational opportunities
available in the schools. |
