Highlander Choir
PREREQUISITE: AUDITION ONLY
GRADES: 9 through 12
CREDIT 1 (FULL YEAR)
Learn how to sing without having to sing solo. Students have the opportunity to improve their voices and expand their exposure to the arts through four to eight-part choral singing. Students daily practice self-discipline and humanities through reflection, study and performance. Songs performed in the past: Faith Hill’s “Breathe”, “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent, “Seize The Day” from Disney’s musical “Newsies”, and songs from Africa, France, and Germany. The choir annually performs songs from classical composers such as Haydn and Mozart as well as Baldwin High School’s own “Alma Mater.” Members of the choir have opportunities to perform for the community at local nursing and assisted living homes, Baldwin-Whitehall middle and elementary schools, and The Pittsburgh Benedum’s performance of The Nutcracker. The Choir has also performed nationally in Washington D.C., and Orlando Florida. Students participate in up to three graded community performances per year.
