Del Greco Named Player of the Year
  Baldwin High School senior John Del Greco was selected as Player of the Year and All Section for Men's Soccer. He was also selected for Men's All State Soccer team.

TOB 2003 Scholarship Winner
  Baldwin High School senior Nick Andes is the recipient of the 2003 Tournament of Bands Group IV scholarship. Each year, Tournament of Bands selects one winner in each group. Each director is permitted to nominate one student. One contestant from each band is then entered into a drawing. This is the first time a Baldwin student has been selected for this award. Nick is the Drum Major for the Baldwin Highlander Marching Band.

BHS Forensic Results Erie Allstate Invitational
At the McDowell Mercyhurst Lake Erie Allstate Invitational, Baldwin’s Public Forum Debaters dominated. The team of Julia Duncan and Patrick Devlin took first; Mike Ducker and T. Ryan placed second, Sarah Fazio and Maura Nowalk were third, and Kate Stasik and Kate Yasko were fifth. With help from Congressional debaters, Tricia Kasper and Mallory Squier, our debaters were able to capture second place in the Tournament Debate Sweepstakes.
Bob Ryan placed second in Oratorical Declamation. Points added by Interper Kate Kubincanek and Extemper Justin Lotz helped Baldwin take third place in the overall Tournament Sweepstakes.
Congratulations to Maura Nowalk who has earned NFL’s Degree of Special Distinction and to T. Ryan, Justin Lotz, and Patrick Devlin who have earned the Honor Degree.

State Certified EMT
  Baldwin High School senior Bob Siegwarth spent his summer attending the EMT program through CCAC at Jefferson Hospital. In November, Bob passed his State Boards and is now a State Certified Emergency Medical Technician.

6th grade Calcu-Solve
  Harrison Middle School sixth grade student Matt Schmidlin placed fourth in the individual competition out of 265 students at the Sixth Grade Math Calcu-Solve Bowl held at Duquesne University. Matt Schmidlin, Donald Huang, Kai Chen and Mike DeLyser tied for third place in team competition.

Hoby Representative
  Sophomore Danielle Williamson was selected as the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) representative from Baldwin High School. HOBY is a non-profit organization that recognizes and develops leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores and encouraging and preparing the next generation of civic and corporate leadership for America’s future. Sanja Cvitkusic was selected as the alternate representative.

Steel Center Extra Effort Award
  Baldwin High School junior Jessica Shaner received the Steel Center Area Vocational Technical School Extra Effort Award in baking. Each quarter, Steel Center instructors select students who demonstrate outstanding work ethic, attendance and dependability.

Western PA Leadership Representative
  Baldwin High School sophomore Sanja Cvitkusic was selected as the high school representative to attend the Western Pennsylvania Leadership Conference. The alternate representative is Danielle Williamson. The conference will be held May 21-23 at California University of Pennsylvania.

HMS - Students of the Week for December
Each week at Harrison, students that display a particular character trait are selected as Students of the Week. In December, Gracious students will be selected. Each student selected receives a certificate, their name posted in the library, and a Kit Kat candy bar delivered to their homebase. A letter of recognition and congratulations from the principal, Mr. Lutz, is sent to the student's parents. Students may be Students of the Week only once each school year.

Forensic News
  Congratulations to Mike Ducker and T. Ryan who were voted the Superior Speakers in their respective Houses at the Pittsburgh District NFL Student Congress held at Baldwin on December 13 and who were selected as nominees to qualifiy for the National Student Congress to be held in in Salt Lake City in June.

Bob Ryan was voted Outstanding Speaker, Veronica Noceti, Superior Speaker, and Kate Stasik, Merit Speaker in their Houses. Congratulations also to Sarah Fazio who earned

National Forensic League’s Degree of Distinction, to Mike Ducker who earned the Honor Degree, and to Margaret Lucidore and Amanda Stockhausen who earned NFL membership last week.

North Catholic Invitational Forensic Tournament
  Two Baldwin Public Forum Debate teams were selected as Outstanding Debaters at the North Catholic Invitational Tournament on December 20 . The teams of Julia Duncan and Mike Ducker and Patrick Devlin and T. Ryan were among the twenty teams competing for the honors.
The coach from Lakeview High School (Mercer) also presented Mrs. Corinne Grubb with the Winona Hartley Angel award as the outstanding forensic volunteer in recognition of the many hours she has given to the team.

PMEA District I Chorus
  Baldwin High School junior Megan Curley, senior Laura Van Wert and junior Connor Nowalk have been selected to perform for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District I Chorus Festival. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on January 30 at North Allegheny High School.

36 Year Old BHS Swim Record Broken
  Ray Toomey broke a 36 year Baldwin High School record in the 100 yard butterfly Ray also broke a 28 year pool record at Montour in the 100 yard butterfly and qualified for the PIAA state finals.

BHS Varsity Swim Team Update- January 8th
The Baldwin Varsity Swim Team won their meet with Trinity High School on January 8. The women’s team won with a score of 101 to 75, and the men’s team won with a score of 94 to 74.

Baldwin participated in the Taylor Allderdice Eleventh Annual Swim Invitational held on January 10. The women’s team received third place over all, and the men’s team placed second over all. Eleven varsity swim teams participated in the invitational. The Men’s Varsity Swim Team took first place in eight out of eleven events. Three meet records were broken by Baldwin Varsity Men.

 
Joshua Laskey set a new time for the Men’s 200 yard free style at 151.22. The old record of 152.00 was set in 1994 by Baldwin graduate, Eric Anderson.   Adam Eiben set a new meet record for the Men’s 200 yard IM at 205.53. The old record of 206.01 was set in 1991.
  A new record was set for the men’s 400 yard free style relay. The relay consisted of Adam Eiben, Matt Felbinger, Josh Laskey, and Raymond Toomey. The new time was 324.62, beating the meet record of 330.34 set in 2003 by the Baldwin Varsity Men’s Swim Team.

During the Taylor Allderdice Invitational, Matt Felbinger qualified for WPIALs in the 100 yard free style.

HMS Mathcounts
  Harrison Middle School students David Dgien and Donald Huang placed 2nd in the Mathcounts tournament. Twenty teams from Moon, South Fayette, Peters Township and Baldwin-Whitehall School Districts participated in the tournament that was held at Robert Morris University.

BHS Forensic at N. Allegheny Invitational Tournament
On January 10, junior Sarah Fazio and senior Maura Nowalk went 4-0, the only undefeated team in a field of 20, to capture first place in Public Forum Debate at the North Allegheny Invitational Debate and Congress tournament. Senior Kate Stasik and freshman Amanda Stockhausen were recognized as Presiding Officers in their respective Congresses. Stasik also earned the National Forensic League’s Degree of Special Distinction having earned more than 500 competitive speech and debate points. Sophomore Kate Kubincanek earned the Degree of Excellence (150 points) and Amanda Stockhausen earned the Degree of Honor (75).

2004 Early Graduates
Renee Amendola, Dale Barker, Amanda Filippelli, Stephen Gumina, Matthew Lutz, Alicia Maszle, Tiffany Meier, Ana Milicevic, Joshua Pikutis, Melissa Ruffing, Cori Stalker, Emily Stoker, and Kelly Verna achieved the requirements necessary for early graduation from Baldwin High School. The graduates were recognized at a ceremony on January 20 and will take part in the June commencement with the entire Class of 2004.

National Young Leaders Conference in Washington
  Baldwin High School senior Maura Nowalk was selected to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. NYCL is a unique leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit. The theme of NYCL is The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today. Maura will interact with key elected officials, political appointees and newsmakers in an exploration of the three branches of government, the news media, and the international community.

PMEA District I Band / Orchestra
  Seniors Dawn Cercone (French horn), Nick Andes (alto sax), and Zach Bryte (bassoon) and junior Nicole Shannon (French horn) were selected to perform at the PMEA District I Band Festival at Carlynton High School on February 12 -14. At this festival, the students will audition for admission to the PMEA Region State Festival to be held in March.

  Senior Dawn Cercone (French horn) and juniors Tom Chojnicki (cello), Nicole Hallinen (violin) and Sarah Sukal (violin) represented Baldwin High School at PMEA District I Orchestra at Bethel Park High School. These talented musicians were selected from among hundreds of applicants and auditioned at the event for admission to the PMEA Region State Orchestra Festival in March.
