Teachers
of Excellence
The Teacher
Excellence Center selects 100 teachers
to be honored as part of its Teacher Recognitions
Program. This year's judging process was extremely
competitive, resulting in a 10-way tie at the
100th honoree. Therefore, the organization
announced 110 honorees. Mr. Jay Johnson and
Mr. Scott Ross, teachers at Harrison Middle
School in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District,
are included on that top 110 list. The Downtown-based
center, a reincarnation of the defunct Teacher
Excellence Foundation, received 3,330 nominations
from sixty-three school districts across Southwestern
Pennsylvania. Each nominee earned scores through
a judging process that included reviewing nomination
forms, evaluating teacher essays and conducting
personal interviews. All 110 teachers will
be recognized on stage during the April 28
program and the finalists with the top five
scores will be the 2004 – 05 Teachers
of Excellence. The schools of the five Teachers
of Excellence will each receive a $2500 grant
for their schools
