After the second nine-week grading
period, Whitehall PTA recognized the top ten

grade level. Students were recognized on the
Whitehall morning news, received a certificate,

- January Happygrams
For the month of January, students
at Whitehall Elementary School practiced the core
value of tolerance. During this month, Dr. Martin
Luther King comes to the forefront as a prime example
of a great leader who encouraged us to be tolerant
of others. At the Happy Gram recognition on January
31, some Whitehall students were commended for respecting
the rights and beliefs of others. These Whitehall
students showed that they are tolerant leaders by
being good listeners and treating others fairly.
Congratulations to all of the January recipients
and remember that tolerance is the oil that takes
friction out of life.

PES
- Monthly Character Trait Award Winners
Each theme is introduced during the
morning news. The concept is further explained as
the teachers follow up with activities that help
students understand how to demonstrate the attribute.
This year we will be using the videos from PBS Kids,
Adventures from the Book of Virtues. These videos
have been an outstanding resource in making these
character attributes more easily understood by children.
Another activity is the story time with the principals.
This affords the principals the opportunity to see
and talk with students about the story and how it
represents the attribute. After several opportunities
to learn about the month’s attribute, each
class selects up to three students who represent
that attribute. Those students receive a certificate
and are photographed for the lobby bulletin board
display. We are proud of our students and their efforts
to learn and grow in character.

- HMS Students of the Week
The Student of the Week
program at J. E. Harrison Middle School is run by
the Positive Communication Committee. Each week the
10 Core Teams, four in sixth grade, three in seventh
grade and three in eighth grade, plus the Physical
Education Team, the Music Team and the Encore Team
nominate students to be Students of the Week. These
students possess a positive character trait. The
traits are chosen from those studied during Homebase
activities. Each Student of the Week will have a
congratulatory letter sent home to their parents
or guardians, will have a candy bar and a certificate
delivered to their homebase, and will have their
name displayed in the library with the other chosen
students. Students can be chosen as Student of the
Week only once each school year.
