High School sophomore Michael Werkmeister,
member of Boy Scout Troop 338 earned his Eagle
Scout award. To obtain this honor, Michael
performed an Eagle project that benefited the
only true "No Kill" Animal Shelter
in Western Pennsylvania located in Washington
County called Angel Ridge Animal Shelter. With
the help of his fellow scouts, he was able
to organize and coordinate the construction
of collection boxes and placed them in churches,
pet stores, and supermarkets over a two month
period to collect articles that would benefit
the shelter. He also organized and chaired
a Dog Fair held at South Park that consisted
of dog games, Chinese auctions, shirt sales,
dog readings, dog blessings, obstacle courses,
and more for the enjoyment of the pets and
their owners. For the collection portion of
his project, he was able to collect over 700
items inclusive of twenty - 30 lb bags of dog
food, toys, medical supplies, and more along
with generating over $8,000.00 from the Dog
Fair.
