Our community has a rich history that informs our present. The Whitehall Borough Historical Society is committed to preserving and understanding our history and encouraging others to do the same.

In order to encourage the youngest members of our community to explore history, the Society has created the History Student Award. “One of The Whitehall Borough Historical Society goals is to encourage students to become interested in history. An idea that we developed was to honor a student who had that interest in history,” explained John Wotus, President of the Whitehall Borough Historical Society.

Kameron Locy, a Baldwin High School student, received the inaugural award at the Annual Historical Society meeting on October 12, 2023, at the Whitehall Borough Building.  Locy was recommended for this honor by BHS history teacher Richard Deemer. “Kameron excelled at her history classes and was always looking for more. It was her intense interest in history that won her the nomination,” said Deemer.

Locy is drawn to history because of the perspective it gives. “I love history because it allows you to look to the past for guidance, and it prevents us from repeating mistakes. Lessons learned are the most significant aspect of history, which is why this subject is essential to learn. History is able to show you a new world and lets you be immersed in the environment of our past and of other cultures,” she shared.
