Carter Smeal, a tenth-grade student at BHS, represented Baldwin at PMEA Honors Orchestra on November 17th and 18th. In September, approximately 200 students from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland counties auditioned to make it into the prestigious ensemble of only 74 members. Carter earned a second chair spot in the cello section. On Friday and Saturday he rehearsed with students representing 22 other school districts under the direction of Dr. Alexandra Dee, the Director of Orchestral Activities at Appalachian State University, and on Saturday afternoon they performed an hour-long concert of advanced orchestral repertoire. In February, Carter and fellow BHS student Emma Smerbeck, a junior, will represent Baldwin at PMEA District Orchestra.
