Baldwin High School serves as a model of inclusive education. Recently, BHS Transition Coordinator Eric Jankoski, BHS teacher Jared Hoffman, and BHS students Samantha, Molly, and Rajeh exhibited at the 2024 Pennsylvania Department of Education Conference in Hershey, PA, showcasing the way a BHS student-run business serves students.
Innovation Shop operates on a Partners Model, which pairs students with and without Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This model not only teaches workplace skills in a real-world setting, but also promotes inclusion. Innovation Shop launched in 2021 and offers a variety of products, many with a hometown theme, including magnets, pens, and phone stands.
BHS students and staff were part of the first ever Student Shoppe at the conference, which featured a number of school-based, student-run businesses across the commonwealth. Jankoski, Hoffman, and the students shared with administrators and educators how they approach their business and the ways it enhances education, relationships, and work-place readiness.
