Members of the Spanish National Honor Society visited third-grade classrooms at R. A. Lutz Elementary to teach Spanish lessons. High School students were able to internalize Spanish in fresh ways as they prepared to teach them to younger learners. The high schoolers explained Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Day of the Dead is one of Mexico's most unique and vibrant holidays, and is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd every year. Students learned all about the day, focusing on the fact that it is a beautiful way to come together and celebrate the lives of loved ones. They also learned some key Spanish vocabulary, and practiced that vocabulary through a fun memory game with their classmates. We ended the lesson with students creating their very own sugar skulls masks.
