A team of BHS students recently competed in the annual science-based Chain Reaction Contraption Contest hosted by Westinghouse at their headquarters in Cranberry. Each year, the competition challenges students to design and build a complex Rube Goldberg-style contraption that completes a specific task. This year’s challenge, “Plant a Seed,” required teams to create a chain-reaction device that ultimately accomplished that goal.
The BHS team designed an elaborate farm-themed contraption to meet the challenge. The team consisted of four juniors: Alexandria Scarpaci, Joseph Maiers, Julean Digiannurio, and Ethan Waldo.
After presenting their contraption to a panel of judges, the team earned a special “Rookie of the Year” award and achieved an impressive fifth-place finish among 15 competing school teams.
Congratulations to the team on this outstanding accomplishment!
