While the trek through the school building to find an open computer lab was always an exciting adventure, the 1:1 Chromebook initiative at the high school has already made significant impact in the classroom. Students in Mrs. Foote's classes have been finding many uses for the new devices. In addition to substituting paper handouts for digital copies, the students have been immersed in vocabulary expansion, image research, and concept design. The students are exploring new apps and an entirely modernized way of keeping track of assignment, due dates, and course happenings. Students in Wood Crafts I have been using the image editing application, Pixlr, to create multi-layer project templates. The app is very similar to Photoshop, but is available for the students to use any time free of cost. The fear of running out of class time in the computer lab is gone! As the school year continues, staff and students alike are excited to continue exploring all of what the Chromebooks have to offer.
