On the first day of school, students in Mrs. Hausman's classes were presented with a challenge: working with a random group of students, build the tallest freestanding tower that can support the weight of a marshmallow with 20 pieces of spaghetti, a yard of tape, and a yard of string. This activity, inspired by the Tom Wujec TED Talk, allows students to quickly put their differences aside for a common goal. This activity promotes team building skills like problem solving, communication, collaboration, determination, and creativity which are among the top skills employers want out of the work force. They had a lot of fun getting to know each other and building together.
