Students of all abilities from fifteen school districts across the region were treated to an unforgettable prom. Students from Avonworth, Baldwin, Belle Vernon, Bethel Park, Carlynton, Chartiers Valley, Elizabeth Forward, Keystone Oaks, Moon, Peters Township, South Allegheny, South Fayette, Thomas Jefferson, Upper St. Clair, and Washington School Districts gathered together on May 1st for the big event. 17 students from Baldwin High School joined around 200 students from the area for this special time. This year, The Gateway Clipper graciously hosted the S.T.A.R.S. Prom.
The formal extravaganza celebrates the individuality of all students while promoting inclusion and awareness. The S.T.A.R.S. Prom originated more than a decade ago when seven participating school districts hosted the event in one of their high school's gymnasium. Since then, the S.T.A.R.S. Prom has doubled in size and has also included hosts such as Pirate Charities, PNC Park, Belle Sera, and the Omni William Penn Hotel. The educators involved in the event liberally give their time and efforts as part of a committee specifically designed to plan, facilitate, and create a memorable occasion for every student in attendance.
The social gathering was an illustrious experience for everyone involved. Special thanks go out to many vendors for donating goods and services to the students: DJ Kelli Burns, M & M Photography, J & J Pittsburgh Photo Booth, Allegheny County's Project Prom, North and South Hills Beauty Academies.
