From the Desk of the Superintendent

On February 5, I was incredibly moved to see the Baldwin-Whitehall School Board of Directors vote to rename our District’s administrative office after former Baldwin-Whitehall School District Superintendent Dr. Charles H. Faust.

Dr. Faust served the students and families of Baldwin-Whitehall for over a quarter century, first as Assistant Superintendent from 1976-1986 and then as Superintendent from 1986-2004. His admirable academic accomplishments include greatly expanding our District’s total number of classrooms, implementing state-of-the-art technology and library resources, and guiding Baldwin-Whitehall through a period of rapid growth as one of the most diverse and immigrant-friendly school districts in the Allegheny Valley.

But even more impressive than Dr. Faust’s executive acumen was his steadfast commitment to his idealistic values and unwavering integrity. In fact, his kind and caring demeanor inspired many of our students to become educators themselves.

Personally, I have many warm memories of seeing Dr. Faust seated in the same spot for each Baldwin High School football game, year after year. No matter if our Fighting Highlanders were playing in a heatwave or a blizzard, you always knew you could look up in the stands and see Dr. Faust proudly serving as our students’ ultimate cheerleader.

I am so grateful that our School Board of Directors has seen fit to honor Dr. Faust’s unwavering belief in our students’ bright futures by renaming our administrative offices in his honor. Now when we come to work each day to chart the course of our students’ education, we will do so in honor of the man who never lost sight of what mattered most as he led our District: planning ahead, embracing technology, increasing access, welcoming diversity, leading by example, and most of all, showing up rain or shine so our students always knew just how much he cared.
