Students Explore the Future through Junior Achievement Inspire Career Day

HMS eighth-grade students represented well at the Junior Achievement Inspire Career Day. Students had the opportunity to meet with professionals from several fields and explore all the booths while practicing skills that they learned in the classroom. Ms. White, Ms. Fetterolf, and Ms. McNally spent time working with students to explore student attributes, write an elevator pitch, and research vendors to prepare for the exciting day. Some of the vendors included UPMC Healthcare, Alcosan, KML Regional Council of Counselors, Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, Rosedale Tech, New Century Careers, Bots IQ, KDKA, and several more. Junior Achievement continues to partner with HMS middle school teachers, counselors, and Ms. Reynolds, STEM Integration Specialist, to provide career education through handsā€on activities, job shadows, and speakers in the classrooms. Ms. Leadbitter and Ms. Thomas will continue to promote Career Education across all classrooms. Ask your child to see his or her career portfolio folder that contains all of the documents from classroom career lessons.

Career Cruising is another website that you can investigate with your child. Each student has an individual username and password to access the site. Thank you to all 8th-grade teachers and staff for chaperoning the field trip so that students can embark on authentic activities and prepare for the future.
