Fourth-graders from R.A. Lutz Elementary School participated in a meaningful project to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 by creating cards for Pittsburgh firefighters. As part of a lesson about the significance of September 11, 2001, the students learned about the heroism and sacrifice of first responders during that tragic day. Inspired by these stories, they decided to express their gratitude by designing cards filled with thoughtful messages, drawings, and symbols of appreciation. The cards were a heartfelt tribute to the bravery of the firefighters, many of whom continue to risk their lives daily to keep their communities safe. By engaging in this project, the students not only paid homage to the firefighters' courage but also gained a deeper understanding of the lasting impact of 9/11 on the country. Their efforts helped to bridge generations, as the young students, who were not yet born when the attacks occurred, connected with the memory of that day through their creative expression and acts of kindness. This initiative fostered a spirit of community, gratitude, and remembrance, while also teaching the importance of honoring those who serve.
