Learning Blossoms with Johnny Appleseed Day

Mrs. Thornton’s kindergarten class celebrated the arrival of fall with Johnny Appleseed Day! First, we read stories and watched a short video about Johnny Applessed to learn who he was and why he was so important. Then we watched a Blippi video from an Apple Orchard to learn how apples are processed. After that we did our own little taste test!

Each student had the opportunity to try a slice of apple, a glass of apple juice and a scoop of apple sauce. We used our senses to give more to the experience. We talked about the aroma, discussed the look and texture, and then we tried each apple item with our sense of taste! We then graphed which way we liked apples the best. The results were: 8 kids liked sliced apples, 6 kids liked apple sauce and 4 kids liked apple juice best!
