Students at McAnnulty Elementary are having so much fun making music together in Mrs. Keiper’s kindergarten music class. They enjoy singing the “McAnnulty Song” and are working on learning the “Baldwin Alma Mater.” The kindergarteners have been exploring the use of their voices, learning the sounds of various percussion instruments, and practicing steady beats and simple rhythms. We also use a lot of dance and movement to respond to music.
In music class, the students are very active in making and responding to music. Before the winter break, students played percussion instruments as they performed a steady beat along with music from The Nutcracker. Scarves were used to move along to a movement from Camille Saint-Saëns’s The Carnival of the Animals. For the 100th day of school students practiced reading quarter notes and keeping a steady beat by playing one hundred quarter notes on classroom percussion instruments.
