Every week, students from Baldwin High School come to McAnnulty Elementary School, embarking on a journey into the world of education through the innovative "teacher in training" partnership. These students have been participating in the BHS Preschool program and have been afforded the opportunity to continue their study of child development by working with kindergarten students. Engaged in a variety of activities, these aspiring educators immerse themselves in the classroom environment, interacting with students, reading stories aloud, participating in classroom activities, and providing valuable assistance to learners and their mentor teacher. From leading lessons to offering individualized support, they embrace the responsibilities of teaching with enthusiasm.
Through this enriching experience, students are granted a unique opportunity to further explore the field of education, gaining invaluable insights and firsthand classroom experience. As they navigate the intricacies of teaching and learning, they uncover their passion for education and discern whether it aligns with their long-term goal of becoming a teacher. Baldwin High School senior Mallory Mezeivtch is one of the “teacher in training” participants. She shared, “I am thankful for the opportunity from Baldwin to be a part of the preschool program and to allow me to shadow in Mrs. Richter’s classroom. I have learned a lot and am even more excited for my future in teaching!”
