First-grade students at McAnnulty were challenged to learn how nonfiction books are organized in the library. In order to make learning this topic interactive and exciting, a technological scavenger hunt was created. The students used the BeeBots to categorize different nonfiction book topics. Working in collaborative groups, the students were each given a topic card and had the task to program the BeeBot with a specific code to find all the books included in their category. Through this activity, the students not only learned how nonfiction books are organized, but also how to write and debug code, allowing the BeeBot to move correctly. The students enjoyed their day cracking the code of nonfiction!
