On September 26th, McAnnulty first-grade students participated in celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday by utilizing their STEAM skills in apple-themed stations. First, Science involved students observing chemical reactions as their volcanic apple erupted. Next, Technology was showcased as students shared their learning using Seesaw digital portfolios. The Engineering process was integrated as the students explored apple speeds using elevations with ramps. They investigated buoyancy by designing and testing apple boats. Students also collaborated to build tower structures to support and balance their apples. The learners created birthday pennants and apple-mosaic artwork to display throughout our building. Finally, Math skills were applied to represent apple data through graphs, surveys, and addition and subtraction equations. The students worked in cooperative learning teams as they enjoyed this special day!
