Dear Baldwin-Whitehall Families and Community Members,
The Baldwin-Whitehall School District is preparing for an important investment in the future of McAnnulty Elementary School. The presentation linked below provides an overview of the upcoming renovation project and the steps being taken to ensure students continue to learn in safe, high-quality environments during construction.
The renovation of McAnnulty Elementary addresses critical infrastructure needs that were first identified in the District’s 2017 Facilities Plan. Several building systems are nearing the end of their expected life cycle, and the project will modernize the school through improvements to utilities, roofing, mechanical systems, security, technology, and interior learning spaces. The goal is to ensure that McAnnulty remains a safe, modern, and effective learning environment for students for many years to come.
Because construction will occur across multiple phases and include work that cannot safely occur while students occupy the building, the District worked closely with teachers and staff to determine the best approach for maintaining strong instructional environments during the project. Based on the recommendation of the Kindergarten team, the District plans to temporarily relocate the Kindergarten program to Baldwin High School during the 2026–2027 school year using a “school-within-a-school” model. This design creates a fully self-contained learning space on the first floor of the high school with dedicated classrooms, restrooms, and schedules that ensure complete separation from the high school population.
While the Kindergarten program will temporarily operate at Baldwin High School, it is equally important that the educational experience of our high school students remains fully protected. The high school building has sufficient capacity and space to accommodate both programs without impacting high school classes, programs, or student activities. Careful planning has ensured that Kindergarten students will be located in a dedicated area with their own schedule and routines while the high school continues to operate normally.
This temporary relocation will allow construction to proceed efficiently while protecting the daily routines and learning environment that are essential for our youngest students. The presentation also outlines safety procedures, supervision plans, and opportunities for families to tour the kindergarten spaces before the transition occurs.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with the renovated McAnnulty Elementary expected to reopen for students in August 2027.
We encourage you to watch the video presentation to learn more about the project, the timeline, and the steps the District is taking to support students and families throughout the process.
Our commitment remains the same: ensuring every Baldwin-Whitehall student learns in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment.
