Lessons in Uncertainty

Lessons in Uncertainty

Let's be honest: these are challenging times.

Over the past few weeks, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has disrupted every facet of day-to-day life in our District. Based on the current state of this pandemic, I expect these disruptions to continue into the near future. To stay informed, please visit our website at www.bwschools.net for updates as we continue to monitor the coronavirus situation in our region.

However, as inconvenient as these disruptions may be, they are also necessary. To not take extreme precautions now would risk creating a serious healthcare crisis later, not just in our community but also throughout our country.

How we respond to challenges like the coronavirus as educators — and also as parents — is a lesson that our children will learn from. Our behavior in a crisis shows our children how they should react to uncertainty. When we offer positive examples of healthy behavior, we teach our kids how to face adversity with courage, wisdom, and compassion.

As we continue to navigate these uncertainties in the coming days and weeks, I am hopeful that things will get "back to normal" as soon as it is safe for our District to do so.

In the meantime, please enjoy this March 2020 issue of Highlander Highlights. It contains many examples of the wonderful things that happen in our schools and our community. Personally, I see it as a welcome reminder that even though life may be unpredictable, good news keeps happening all around us.
