Baldwin High School Hosts Celebrity Hoops for Hospice

Family Hospice will be bringing back their celebrity basketball game for the second consecutive year on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 7–8 p.m. The game will be played by Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers alumni, Passion, and local celebrities.

The event is a fundraiser for Family Hospice’s children who are in hospice care and dying, and bereaved children who have suffered a loss. For pediatric patients, their focus is on enhancing the quality of life for the child, preventing and minimizing suffering, and optimizing function. This is accomplished through programs and therapies to support physical and emotional well-being, such as art, equine, massage, music, and pet therapies. Bereaved children, often referred to as the forgotten grievers, can be overlooked when families are busy making necessary arrangements. A child’s grief is complex and unique. Chances are they’ve never experienced a loss before and are in unknown territory. Programs and services are offered to help them navigate their way to a safe and healthy space. These include group classes and individual bereavement sessions, Remembrance Pillows crafted from a loved one’s clothing that they can hug and smell to provide comfort, and grief totes containing books about loss, creative activities, memory boxes, photo frames, and more.

Since 1980, Family Hospice has been serving the needs of patients and their families. It is the largest nonprofit hospice organization in Pennsylvania, and their mission is to provide compassionate, quality comfort care that enhances the lives of people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Family Hospice delivers care in personal homes, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and the Canterbury inpatient unit in Lawrenceville. The team of physicians, nurses, social workers, spiritual counselors, and volunteers takes a holistic approach, offering services and programs that help on physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological levels.
