BWSD celebrated the second-annual Transportation Department Appreciation Day on April 28. Spearheaded by student council members Nate Malock and Gianna Harkins, this celebration organized by the BW Elementary PTO and BHS Student Council was put on to thank the District’s hardworking bus drivers and transportation staff.
A catered breakfast, free t-shirts from the new Highland Hub spirit store, donated cookies from the Girl Scouts and Mrs. Westall at LES, gift cards to local restaurants, and gift bags were provided in appreciation. The event was completely student-led, with amazing support from the community of $2,000 in donations to cover the breakfast and t-shirt costs.
Malock was inspired to publicly celebrate the transportation department by his favorite driver, Mrs. Val Hess of Bus #92 and Bus #41 who has driven the high school student since his first day of kindergarten. He values how Mrs. Hess makes such a positive impact on students with her strong memory for names, current sports, and favorite activities. BWSD is proud to have student-led recognition of the hardworking Transportation Department!
