The 2nd Annual Officer Sean Sluganski Memorial Scholarship Fund Social was held this year on September 29th at South Hills Country Club. The Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation would like to extend a very special thank you to Mary Odato, coordinator, for organizing and hosting the special event. Mary is a fierce advocate for the police and her dedication to the Baldwin-Whitehall communities was her driving force to raise awareness of the event and to engage police departments, businesses, organizations, families, and friends to attend and support the cause.
More than 240 attendees, including the Sluganski family and many local police officers, gathered to honor Sean. The event featured an amazing array of food, extraordinary gift baskets, high-end sports auction items and raffles and raised a net total of nearly $17,000 moving closer to achieving the capital campaign goal of $75,000. Special thanks to the more than 120 donors who generously contributed to the success of the event.
The first Social was held last year at the Odato Residence and raised nearly $14,000. The Officer Sean Sluganski Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2023 to honor the legacy of Officer Sean Sluganski (BHS ’09) of the McKeesport Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on February 6, 2023. The annual scholarship provides financial assistance to a graduating Senior of Baldwin High School who is persuing a career in law enforcement or crime prevention. The scholarship is co-sponsored by the Sluganski Family, the Baldwin Borough Police Department, Baldwin Township, the Whitehall Police Department, Fraternal Oder of Police Lodge 91, the McKeesport Police Dept, the Baldwin-Whitehall School District and the Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation.
