The Baldwin-Whitehall School District is at the forefront of transforming education to bring about a modern and forward-thinking learning experience for all students. We are actively engaging diverse perspectives from our staff, students, and broader community in Designing the Journey of a Highlander, a collective vision that articulates our shared aspirations for every student.

A dynamic Design Team that is diverse and represents all aspects of our community—including students—has been created to help co-design the Profile of a Learner at Baldwin-Whitehall School District. Through this process, the District will work with our community to ask:

• What are the hopes, aspirations, and dreams that our community has for our young people?
• What are the skills and mindsets that our children need for success in this rapidly changing and complex world?
• What are the implications for the learning experiences provided in our school systems?

Now more than ever, learning experiences for our students must not only provide for the acquisition of rigorous academic content, but must also foster critical-thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and future-focused skills and mindsets our students need to thrive.

The District’s targeted timeline for the completion of Designing the Journey of a Highlander is by the end of the 2023–2024 school year. This process involves four Design Team meetings where stakeholders actively participate in creating the Profile of a Learner.

Designing the Journey of a Highlander will be locally developed and globally positioned. It will be the first step in framing a new vision for BWSD, aligned to the pillars of the District’s Strategic Plan. From our kindergarteners to our seniors—this work has an enduring impact. Members of the Design Team will play an important role in creating our Profile of a Learner, which will become a reality for every student as the District strives to create meaningful learning experiences every day. Once the Design Team completes Designing the Journey of a Highlander, the exciting work of implementing this new vision begins for all of us.
