The Transportation Department at Baldwin-Whitehall School District is passionate about safety. For the third holiday season, the staff of the department collected money to purchase bikes and helmets for Toys for Tots. Staff members worked with local businesses who extended discounts to help support the purchase of bikes and helmets for this worthy cause. The transportation department delivered the bikes and helmets in a bus—all decked out for the holidays. This year, they purchased a record number of bikes: 65 bikes and helmets. On Wednesday evening, December 4th, at 7:30 p.m. the bikes and helmets were brought by the festive bus to the School Board meeting. The presentation was a celebratory affair. The transportation hosted a barbecue and one of the bus drivers dressed as Santa for the occasion. Diane Plish spearheads the fundraiser. David Tompkins, Transportation Manager for the District, praised her efforts and the generosity of the staff. He shared that this has become a beloved tradition in the transportation department. He explained, "We're already talking about how we can do even more next year."
