The students in Room 222 at Whitehall Elementary spent time on September 11 discussing the importance of community heroes as well as the role that we all can play when we come together in times of need. They were each given a full sheet of paper with what looked like random designs on it. They were told to color everything red and blue. There were some spaces that were to be kept white, and the students that received those papers were told which spaces were not to be colored. Once completed, the papers were assembled in a prearranged order, and to the surprise of the students, created a patriotic mural! It brought our discussion back to how maybe one person may not seem like much, but when many come together, it makes something that is really strong and beautiful. A student even said, "just like the USA."
