Second-graders at Whitehall participated in a yearly tradition of a day full of ancient Greek activities as a final project, wrapping up their CKLA Knowledge unit on ancient Greece. Throughout the day, students practiced democracy by registering to vote and then voting on a class reward, created a passport for their travel to Greece, participated in three Olympic events, and then worked to build the Parthenon with marshmallows! Each class crowned a gold medal winner in both the shot put and long jump and students compared their own performance to the world record holders’. Another favorite event was running one lap around the gym. Students compared one lap to the 262 laps needed to run an actual marathon! Students had so much fun collaborating together and bringing to life the concepts that they have been learning about during Knowledge.
