The Science of Hockey: Students Learn through EVERFI Math and Science

Look out, Lorretta! In partnership with the NHL, NHLPA, and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, the fifth-graders at Paynter have been steaming through math and science with the addition of the EVERFI Math and Science programs.

The Hockey Scholar program takes students on an exciting educational journey with the goal of winning a virtual Stanley Cup along with our five-time Stanley Cup Champions. As they guide their team, students complete 12 learning modules that educate them and test their knowledge on core STEM concepts covering data analysis, geometry, life science, and physical science. These topics come to life through real hockey examples that include the dynamics of the ice surface, equipment design, athletic performance, and geometric and energy considerations, all relating to how the game is played.

The EVERFI program is a great way for students to apply what they've learned to real-life situations.
